Offbeat

Your photos, cut on what you hear.

Your photos and music never leave your computer.

How it works

  1. PhotosA folder straight off the card. RAW and HEIC files work.
  2. A songAny song you have. Offbeat hears its beat and its hits.
  3. The cutEvery photo change lands on a hit, in colour order. Then make it yours.

A cut made with Offbeat, on a black border with round corners and a wide margin, opening on the Orb.

Every cut on a hit

The song runs along the top, the photos sit under it in colour order, and the hits are marked below them. It all plays with the song before anything renders.

Offbeat’s editor. A photo of a moon over dark towers fills the preview, the settings run down both sides, and the timeline at the bottom shows the song’s waveform above the photos in colour order.

Keep to the beat

On by default. Cuts sit on the beats the kick and the snare land on, and an accent off the beat gets a cut only when it clearly stands out.

Match the cover

Offbeat reads the album art inside the song file and picks the photos in its colours. A black and white cover picks the black and white photos.

Limit flashing

On by default, for people sensitive to flashing. Nothing flashes more than three times a second, in the preview or in the video.

Made for iPhone Duo

Open it flat and the cut sits beside the controls. Fold it halfway and set it down: the cut stands on the upper half, with the controls and the song lane on the lower one, under your thumbs.

A drawing of the layout. The Duo version is in development.
Offbeat on iPad: a green photo of towers and a moon in the preview, a few settings on either side, and the timeline below. Offbeat on iPhone, with the same cut and the timeline under it.
From a build in development.

On iPad and iPhone too

The same editor and the same cut, sized for the hand. Photos come straight from your library, and the video is written on the phone.

Nothing leaves your computer

Offbeat reads your photos and your song on your own device, finds the beats there and writes the video there too. No uploads, no accounts, no telemetry.
